On Wednesday, May 24th the TSP Senior Role Models and I got together for our first service project with Girls on the Run of Central Iowa. This organization has a mission to “inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.” I felt that their mission and values align perfectly with what I am wanting to accomplish with my senior role models, which is to bring together the girls together to focus and connect with other people, to build each other up with kindness and love, and help them to recognize the beauty in their differences and empower them to be the best they can be. You can read more about Girls on the Run program here.
The Girls on the Run program had an end of the year 5K run at Waterworks Park where more than 800 girls in grades 3-8 participated in the run. The TSP Senior Role Models were in charge of the “Happy Hair” station. Happy hair is the best place to work if you aren’t a professional hair stylist but want to feel like one for a couple hours! 🙂 The girls were in charge of making the race a happier and more colorful place one head at a time! It was so wonderful to see the girls work together, have fun and be creative as so many young girls and boys and adults came up to get their hair colored before the 5K race. We even made a tiny appearance about a minute into the ABC news story you can see here. 🙂
It was pretty amazing to look around at the flurry of race participates at the park and see so many heads colored by the TSP Senior Role Models. I am SO proud of them and cannot wait to get to know them more and work with them as a group on more service projects the rest of this year! I am also so inspired by all of the participate in the Girls on the Run 5K. I was asked to photograph the runners as they came through the finish line and I was happy to do so but little did I know how much it was going to touch my heart. I will post photos from the finish line in another post! Big THANK YOU goes out to Girls on the Run and YMCA of Great Des Moines for allowing us to be a part of this event!
I feel so BLESSED to get to work with these Senior Role Models and be a part of something bigger and greater than just senior photos!
My heart is full…Thank you #tspseniorrolemodels!
